College update (9/14-9/20)

Zoe Leonard (Pilipa’a ’15) and her Dartmouth team were on the road this week for the Oakland
University Golden Grizzlies Invitational Tournament in Oakland, Michigan. Dartmouth finished the tournament 1-2 after several tough fought battles. Leonard finished the 3-match tournament with 4 service aces and 55 digs including a match-high and tournament-high 30 digs in a 5-game loss to Western Michigan. Dartmouth will face Bryant University in Rhode Island on Tuesday and will head to Cambridge, Massachusetts on Friday for their Ivy League conference opener against Harvard at 1pm (HST)
Leonard was recognized on the weekly Ivy League Honor Roll for her 55-dig, 4-ace performance.
Ka’iu Ahuna (Pilipa’a 15) a freshman outside hitter and her Eastern Washington Eagles won their only match of the week 3-0
against Corban. Ahuna saw limited action in this match, however finished hitting a perfect 1.000 with two kills on two attempts. The Eagles open Big Sky Conference play at home this Thursday evening with a match against North Dakota at 3pm (HST)
Shae Kanakaole (Pilipa’a ’13), a Junior 0utside hitter and her Whitman
College team went 0-2 this week with losses to the University of Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran. Kanaka’ole led her team with nine kills in the loss to Puget Sound. No stats available for the Pacific Lutheran match. Whitman will face Whitworth University Wednesday at 6pm (3pm HST)
Toni Beck (Pilipa’a ’14), a sophomore opposite and her Briar Cliff Chargers finished 1-1 this
week with a 3-0 win over Dakota Wesleyan and a 1-3 loss to #14 Dordt College. Beck led her team in kills with 10 in the win over Dakota Wesleyan and added 6 kills in the loss to Dordt. Beck and the Chargers will face Mount Marty on Tuesday.
Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo (Pilipa’a ’14), a sophomore outside hitter and her Wells Express team went 3-0 this week with wins against Penn St.-Berks (20-25, 27-25,
25-21, 25-16), Penn College (25-10, 25-16, 25-12), Lancaster Bible (22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-11) Leite-Ah Yo had had 13 kills and 12 digs against Penn St.-Berks, led her team with 11 kills against Penn College and added 9 kills in the win over Lancaster Bible. The Wells Express head play SUNY Delhi on Wednesday.
Taylor Alicuben (Pilipa’a ’15), a freshman setter and her NWAC #2 rated Highline Community College Thunderbirds improved to 15-2 after finishing the week 3-0. Highline won an exciting five set match over Spokane College Sasquatch (25-15, 23-25, 26-24, 22-25, 15-11) Higline closed out the week with sweeps over Centralia (25-15, 25-20) and Olympic (25-12, 25-22) in the Everett Crossover Tournament. Highline will play Tacoma on Wednesday. Updated: Alicuben selected as “Setter of the Week” in the NWAC Conference West Division.
Alison Fuata (Pilipa’a ’15), a freshman outside hitter and her Minot State Beavers were 0-2 this
week with losses to Minnesota State University-Moorehead and #22 Northern State. Fuata had 1 kill on on one attempt against Northern State. The MSU Beavers will face the University of Mary on Tuesday, Bemidji State University on Friday and the University of Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday.
Harley Woolsey (Pilipa’a ’15) a freshman DS/setter and the University of Hawaii-Hilo lost an exciting home conference opener against PacWest Conference rival BYU-Hawaii (23-25, 25-16, 25-27, 25-17, 16-14). Woolsey came in and served tough as a late match service specialist/DS. The Vulcans will face Notre Dame De Namur in a PacWest Conference match on Thursday at 7pm (HST) in Vulcan gym.
Acacia Ka’a’a (Pilipa’a ’13) a Sophomore setter and her Mt. Hood Community College team lost to Blue Mountain last week 3-0 ( 25-22, 25-15, 25-22). Ka’a’a had 12 assists and 6 digs in the match. Mt. Hood will face Southwestern
Oregon Community College on Friday and Umpqua Community College on Saturday.

Ili Nakamoto (Pilipa’a ’15) – United States Air Force Academy
Ili Nakamoto a freshman cadet at the United State Air Force Academy joined the Air Force Volleyball team as a manager this week and will be working with the Mountain West Conference squad while balancing the very high demands of the Academy.
