Pilipa’a 10th in 18U Open

Las Vegas, NV – Pilpa’a Girls 18-1 finished in 10th place (2nd in the Silver Division) in the 18U Open Division of the 33rd Annual SCVA Las Vegas Classic which concluded Monday afternoon at the Mandalay Bay Special Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.    Pilipa’a compiled a 7-3 record in the tournament. Their only losses were to teams that finished in the top nine.

Many of the players on this year’s roster including Laurie McGrath, Nani Spaar, Tiani Bello, Loke Kuamo’o, Aulike Kaiawe, Mia Takai, Aaliyah Asuncion returned from the team that finished 2nd in the 16U Club Division at this tournament last year.  It was a big jump up from 16’s Club to the 18’s Open division, but our returning players along with new additions Kaysha Kahai-Enos, Keala Wright, and Kaili Pila steeped up to meet the challenge.  Pilipa’a was one of the most explosive offensive teams in the division finishing with the third highest point-differential in the 52 team field.  We have had many strong teams in the past, but they have usually played in the club division.  This is the first time that we have entered our Pilipa’a Girls in the Open Division of a large prestigious national tournament.  They proved that they can compete and succeed against some of the best players from around the country.   Our girls attracted a lot off attention from college coaches, parents and fans.

Mahalo to our Coaches, Pilipa’a ‘ohana, friends and sponsors who have supported our girls and helped make this opportunity possible.
