The Pilipa’a 17’s great ride came to end this morning at the Cashman Center as the 17’s lost their first and only match of the tournament to Coast of San Diego  21-25, 25-16, 12-15.   The 17’s finish tied for 5th and ranked 7th overall in the 142 team field.  Pilipa’a was a bit shaky in the first game of the quarterfinals making a few too many errors, but despite that stayed close for the entire game.  The 17’s looked focused and calm in game 2 and put together a solid 25-16 win to take the match to a third and match-deciding 15 point game.  It looked as if momentum had shifted completely to Pilipa’a in game two, however game 3 began much the same as game 2.  The girls started out flat and a few too many errors proved to be the difference.  Despite the loss, it was a great tournament for our girls.  They played some great volleyball along the way and learned a number of things that we need to improve on.

Mahalo to Ben (Alison’s Dad) for supporting our girls and helping to feed them and keep them full of gatorade and water on game days, Kenneth and Gloria (Tiana’s grandparents) for being there at every game, always supporting our girls and filling in as the “video crew,” Geola Cardoza for Chaperone duties, late night laundry services, sandwich making etc., Harvelee and Coach Cas for supporting both teams, food shopping and late night / early morning sandwich making, Coach Tino for your assistance and guidance for the girls, Aunty Kathy for being the ultimate team Mom/ Coach’s wife/ travel agent that made all of the arrangements for our travel and tournament entry, etc., Noe Aiu,  Elena and Malcolm Medeiros, Sharon Beck and Keala Wall and all of our parents that traveled with us or who were unable to, but helped to make this trip happen for our girls.  See you all in the gym at Keaukaha next weekend for our 6th Annual ASICS / Pilipa’a Tournament
