Pilipa’a 18’s headed to silver bracket

Pilipa'a 18's (2014)Houston, Texas – The Pilipa’a 18’s wild ride continued today at the 2014 USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championship on Monday.  Pilipa’a began the day with 4-2 record with their sights set on making it to the Gold Bracket.

Pilipa’a opened the day with a wild 3-game win over 4th seed Fog Black of Canada (25-19, 21-25, 15-13).  Their second match of the day proved to be a “nail-biter” as well with Pilipa’a losing the back-and-forth 3-game match with Seaside 18-Black of California (24-26, 25-21, 13-15).  Pilipa’a’s second-place finish in pool play advanced them in to a challenge bracket where two wins would get them into the gold bracket on Tuesday. Pilipa’a faced San Clemente 18-1 in their first match in the challenge bracket. They looked explosive at times and had spectators talking about the incredible athleticism of the undersized team from Hawai’i.  A few unforced errors kept the match close, but Pilipa’a was able to rise to the occasion to defeat the big team from Southern California in another 3-game thriller (23-25, 25-20, 15-11).

Pilipa’a faltered in their final match of the day against 8th seeded AZ Fear 18-White of Arizona and lost in two games (13-25, 18-25).  Pilipa’a will play in the Silver bracket tomorrow in their final day of play. We’ll have final results here on Pilipaa.com tomorrow and will have updates during the day on our Pilipa’a Facebook page and twitter feed @pilipaa.
