Pilipa’a 2-1 after first day at SCVA

Las Vegas, NV – Pilipa’a Girls 17’s are 2-1 after the first day of competition at the 2017 SCVA Las Vegas Classic. Pilipa’a began the tournament with a solid 2-0 (25-11, 25-18) win over NNJ 17 Perry. Pilipa’a showed a few first-match jitters but shook them off after a few points and led the remainder of the match. Pilipa’a’ was led by Taina Leao with 7 kills and Makalei Watson and Makenna Mahuna with 5 kills each.
Passing and offensive inconsistencies contributed to a 0-2 (22-25, 15-25) loss to M1VB of Minnesota. Taina Leao led Pilipa’a with 5 kills, Keani Akui and Jazzy Alston each added 4.
Pilipa’a was determined to come out strong after the disappointing loss to M1VB. The offense was in rhythm early and outside hitter Makalei Watson recorded a team-high 11 kills and middle blocker Jazzy Alston added 4 kills to lead Pilipa’a.
