Pilipa’a 3-0 in Vegas

Las Vegas, NV – Pilipa’a Girls 18-1 came out firing on all cylinders and finished with a perfect 3-0 record on day one of the 33rd Annual SCVA Las Vegas Classic at the Mandalay Bay Special Events Center.  They overpowered  #46 Pipeline 18-Black of Southern California 2-0 (25-12, 25-11) with a relentless attack to begin the tournament Saturday morning.

They faced a tough Rage VBC 18 team in their second match.  Rage proved to be a more challenging  opponent for Pilipa’a. The match was back and forth, however Pilipa’a pulled away late in each game and finished with their second sweep of the day 2-0 (25-21, 25-21).

Pilipa’a’s final match of the day looked to be the most challenging of the day  They played #7  SCVC of Southern California. SCVC featured tough servers and attackers, but Pilipa’a responded with their best performance of the day and perhaps their best team performance of the season so far. Pilipa’a has often won matches with an overpowering attack, however it was defense that proved to be a huge difference maker.  Pilipa’a stopped  SCVC’s tall and talented attackers with a impressive blocking and digging.  Pilipa’a defeated SCVC 2-0 (25-18, 25-19).

Pilipa’a began the tournament as the 20th seed in the Girls 18U Open Divsion.  They finished day one with a 3-0 record and are now ranked #7 in the 52-team field.  They will resume play tomorrow morning at 8am.

 

The Pilipa’a 18’s include:  Nani Spaar, Tiani Bello, Laurie McGrath, Aulike Kaiawe, Lokelani Kuamoo, Kaili Pila, Mia Takia, Keala Wright, Aaliyah Asuncion, Kaysha Kahai-Enos and Kanani Chan.
