Pilipa’a 3-0 in Vegas

Las Vegas, NV – The Pilipa’a 16-1 girls volleyball team compiled a 3-0 record Saturday morning to start the 32nd Annual SCVA Las Vegas Classic at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pilipa’a began the morning with a decisive 2-0 (25-18, 25-10) over Jet 16 Valdez of Amarillo, Texas.

Pilipa’a defeated BCVC 16 Smack of Southern California 2-0 (25-15, 25-11) in their second match of the day.

Pilipa’a faced 7th seeded Laguna Beach 16-Rochelle in their final and most challenging match of the day.  Pilipa’a jumped out early and cruised to 25-10 win in game one, however game two proved to be more difficult.  Laguna Beach took an early lead to start the second and Pilipa’a found themselves trailing for the first time in the tournament.  Pilipa’a’s passing improved midway through the second game which improved their attacking and allowed them to pull out at 25-22 win in game 2 and a 2-0 (25-10, 25-22) win the for the match.  Pilipa’a finished the day with a 3-0 match record and a 6-0 game record.

Pilipa’a began the tournament seeded 44th out of 100 teams. They head in to the second round as the 7th seed and will face Club Solano 16 Maroon of Northern California at 8am on Sunday.
