Pilipa’a 7-0 and heading to the Gold

Las Vegas, NV – The Pilipa’a Girls 16-1 team improved to 7-0 and is headed to the Gold Bracket of the SCVA Las Vegas Classic at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sunday was a long, but successful day of volleyball for Pilipa’a. They overpowered Club Solano 16 Maroon of Northern California 2-0 (25-9, 25-8) to start the day. Their second match of the day provided their first real challenge of the tournament. Pilipa’a started slow with shaky passing and too many unforced errors leading to an 18-25 loss in game one of the best of three match with Supernova 16 All Stars of Southern California.  It was Pilipa’a’s first game loss in the tournament. Pilipa’a quickly regained it composure and took games 2 and 3 to win 2-1(18-25, 25-17, 15-3).  Pilipa’a faced Puyallup Juniors  in their final pool play match on Sunday. (#22) Puyallup came in to the match with a 5-1 record, however Pilipa’a proved to be too strong offensively for the talented team from Washington State and cruised to a 2-0 (25-19, 25-13) win to finish pool play 3-0 and an earn the right to play in a challenge match to advance to the Gold Bracket.

Pilipa’a returned to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center for an evening match with (#12) NLVC Elite Royal with a berth in the Gold Bracket (Top 8) on the line.  NLVC put on an impressive defensive display and kept things close in game one,  but Pilipa’a turned in one of their best performances of the year to pull off a solid 2-0 (25-17, 25-11) win to advance to the quarter finals Monday morning.
