Pilipa’a advances to second round

Columbus, OH – The Pilipa’a Boys’ 18’s team began competition today at the USA Volleyball Junior National Championship at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Pilipa finished pool play in a three-way tie for second place with a 1-2 record. Despite the losing record, Pilipa’a advanced out of the pool due to their game win/loss record and point ratio advantage over Coastal and Yorktowne.
Pilipa’a looked strong in their first match with a 2-0 (25-16, 25-19) sweep of Coastal 181N of Florida. Kolby Aiona led the way with 9 kills and Abraham Kalavi added 5. Pilipa’a fought hard, but came up short in their second match in a 2-1 (25-23,24-26, 14-16) loss to Yorktowne of the Keystone Region. Once again, Kolby Aiona led the way with 13 kills hitting .468 for the match. Abraham Kalavi added 5 kills and Santana Madrid added 3. Pilipa’a lost the serve and pass battle in their final match of pool which led to a 2-0 (25-16, 25-18) loss.
Pilipa’a will play SPVB B18 Tornado at 3pm (9am HST) tomorrow.
