Pilipa’a Boy’s 17’s and 18’s head to Junior Olympic Tournament in Atlanta.

The Pilipa’a Boy’s 17’s and 18’s depart for Atlanta, GA tomorrow morning for the 2009 USA Volleyball Junior Olympics.  This will be Pilipa’a’s second visit to Atlanta. In 2007 the Pilipa’a 18’s earned silver medal honors and the Pilipa’a 16’s (this year’s 18’s) finished in 5th place.

The 18’s (last year’s 17’s silver medalists) return to pursue the Gold medal that slipped away in last year’s championship match in Utah.  They return a very talented and motivated roster of BIIF All Stars including Clayton “Braddah” Morante, Brady Smith, Warren Ching, Kekoa Kabalis, Jared Kushi, Dustin Toma from Waiakea High School, Ka’ahukane Leite AhYo, Lopaka Woolsey and BIIF Player of the Year, Chandler Kaaa from Kamehameha-Hawaii,  and Shelton “Dude” Kalilikane of Honoka’a.

The Pilipa’a 17’s also feature  tremendous athletes from numerous Big Island schools including Aaron Aweau, Matt Coghlan, Mason Waugh and Keoni Bailado of Kamehameha, Isaiah Ekau and John Byrd of Pahoa,  Kyle Hanagami and Mikey Kurohara of Waiakea and Jacob Andrade of St. Joseph.
