Pilipa`a Boys’ 18’s – Competition Day 1

Reno, Nevada – The Pilipa`a Boys’ 18’s team began play today in the 2013 USA Volleyball Junior National Championship tournament at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nevada. Pilipa’a faced  7th seeded and perennial powerhouse, Balboa Bay in their first match.  Pilipa’a struggled to find their rhythm in the first game losing 18-25. They stepped up their performance in the second game, however it wasn’t enough to overcome the tall team from Southern California.

Pilipa`a started off strong in their second match,  overpowering Ohana AC 18’s Dobbs in the first game 25-19 before dropping games two and three 18-25 and 9-15.

Pilipa`a was determined to get a win heading in to their third match of the day. Their focus and effort paid off with a 25-20, 25-20 sweep of 303 VBC 18’s Boys of Englewood, Colorado.

Pilipa`a finished day 1 of competition with a 1-2 record.  Despite the slow start Pilipa`a will play in a “challenge match” tomorrow at 11am for a chance to stay in the hunt for a division title.
