Pilipa’a claims silver medal at Junior Olympics (Updated)

Pilipa’a’s undefeated streak came to an end this morning in the all “Hawaii” championship match of the 2008 USA Volleyball Junior Olympics held in Sandy, Utah.

Pilipa’a had an extraordinary run in this year’s tournament, winning 11 consecutive matches prior to their championship matchup with OVA 17 Rags (Onipa’a) of Honolulu. Pilipa’a lost the first set 21-25. The fought hard in the second set but were unable to overcome the talented team from O’ahu and lost 24-26

They finish at 11-1 tied with Onipa’a for the best overall match record and 22-5 set record.

“We were one of the shortest teams in the tournament, but our defense one of the best, coach Ecko said. I’m proud of how these boys played despite the size difference. We played well, but came up a little short at the end,” coach Ecko added.

Congratulations to Coach Ecko and the boys for a great tournament! 2009 will be the Gold Medal year!
