Pilipa’a College Report (9/4/16)


ahuna-picKa’iu Ahuna (Pilipa’a 15) a sophomore outside hitter and her Eastern Washington Eaglesewu were 2-1 on the week  with 3-0 win over Cal State Fullerton, a 3-2 win over Eastern Kentucky and an 0-3 loss to Grand Canyon. It was a great weekend for Ahuna who posted a career high 12 kills in two matches (CS Fullerton and EKU) and her first double-double of her collegiate career (12 kills/12 digs) against Eastern Kentucky.  Ahuna finished the three-match tournament with 32 kills and 24 digs.   The Eagles are now 3-3 overall.  Eastern Washington heads to Wyoming next weekend where they will face Cal State Northridge, Samford and Wyoming.



zoeleonardZoe Leonard (Pilipa’a ’15) a sophomore libero and her Dartmouth team were in Fairfield, Connecticut this weekend where they went undefeated in the Sacred Heart Hamptondartmouth Inn Invitational.  The Big Green finished  the tournament 3-0 with sweeps of Milwaukee  (25-21, 25-22, 25-23 ), George Mason (25-23, 25-16, 25-22), and host Sacred Heart (26-24, 25-23, 27-25). Zoe is recovering from injury and did not play.

Dartmouth is 3-0 on the season and heads home to Hanover, New Hampshire to host the Dartmouth Invitational where the Big Green will face Army, Central Connecticut and Niagra next Friday and Saturday.



VB14-KanakaoleShae Kanaka’ole (Pilipa’a ’13), a senior 0utside hitter and her Whitman College whitmanteam split the first two matches of a four-match Slugfest tournament in Santa Cruz, California. They lost their season opener to UC Santa Cruz 1-3 (23-25, 20-25, 25-22, 24-26). Kanaka’ole finished with a double-double (12 kills/13 digs).  Whitman bounced back with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-4) sweep of Mills College.  Whitman will face Whitworth and Menlo later today to finish out the tournament.



toni_beck_195_wvbToni Beck (Pilipa’a ’14), a junior opposite and her Briar Cliff Chargers finished briarcliff3-1 this weekend in the Bruin Classic in Bellevue, Nebraska. Briar Cliff defeated University of Great Falls 3-1 (25-20, 25-15, 21-25, 25-17), swept (#20) Evangel University 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-16), defeated Cornerstone University 3-1 (18-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-13) and lost to Grandview University 1-3 (26-24, 23-25, 17-25, 17-25).  Briar Cliff improved to 5-3 on the season. They will face Mount Marty College on Wednesday.



anuheaAnuhea Leite-Ah Yo (Pilipa’a ’14), a junior outside hitter for the  Wells College Express was named to the  All-Tournament team at Cortland Red Dragon Volleyball Classic thiswellslogo weekend. Her Well Express team finished the tournament 0-2. They lost  1-3 (25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 25-23)  Alfred and  were swept 0-3 (25,22, 25-18, 25-21) by Lebannon Valley.  Wells is now 1-3 for the season.  The Express will host a four-team round-robin tournament next weekend that includes Houghton College, Clarks Summit and Main-Fort Kent.




taylorTaylor Alicuben (Pilipa’a ’15), a sophomore setter and her  Highline Community College have started the season 10-1.  (Stats not available at the time of this post).





player_Fuata_AlisonAlison Fuata (Pilipa’a ’15), a sophomore outside hitter and her Odessa College Wranglers were 2-2 this weekend.  The Wranglers defeated Mountain View College 3-0 (25-16, odessacollege25-17, 25-19). Fuata had 3 kills and team-high 8 digs.  The Wranglers lost 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 28-30, 24-26) to Trinity Valley Community College. Fuata finished with 12 kills and a team-high 19 digs. The Wranglers defeated Temple College 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-15). Fuata tallied 8 kills and 2 digs in the win.  The Wranglers lost 3-2(25-19, 14-25, 22-25, 25-22, 8-15) in their final match of the weekend. Fuata added 3 kills and 3 digs in the match. Odessa will face Frank Phillips College on Wednesday and will host the Odessa College Tournament next weekend.



marshall-kadara-rosterKadara Marshall (Pilipa’a / Cuzins ’16), a freshman middle blocker/OH and her Western Nebraska finished the weekend 1-2.   They lost 1-3 (30-28, 24-26, 17-25, 19-25) to westernnebraska-logoMissouri State University-West Plains. The Cougars bounced back to defeat perennial powerhouse College of Southern Idaho 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 17-25, 15-11). Marshall finished with 4 kills on 10 attempts and hit .300 for the match. The Wranglers lost  3-1 to Northwest College in their final match of the Salt Lake CC Invitational (box scores were not available for this match).
