Pilipa’a Girls 22nd at Nationals

Minneapolis, MN – The Pilipa’a Girls’ 15’s run ended at the 2017 USA Volleyball Junior National Championship with a 22nd place finish in the 48-team field.  Pilipa’a played some great volleyball against some very high caliber teams. Pilipa’a finished 4-6 in the tournament, however 3 of  the 6 losses were to teams that finished in the top ten including silver medalists HP STL who Pilipa’a went 3 with the day before.

I’m extraordinarily proud of our girls. They played hard and proved that they can compete and excel against some of the best teams and players in the nation.  It was an eye-opener for many of our players who now realize how good they can be if they continue to work hard.  We know that we have a lot to work on to improve, but reaching the top of our age group is within reach.

I would like to say mahalo to Coach Sean for his assistance and to all of our parents and families that helped make this season possible for our girls. Mahalo to Renee Veincent, Jenny Toomata, Sheila and Bobby Baldado, Tricia Maldonado and Tammy Spaar for handling meals, laundry and so much else for our girls on this trip.  You guys are also the best fan/cheering section a club team could ask for. I would like to add a special mahalo to my wife Kathy who does so much behind the scenes to help keep our club running and to make sure that we get to where we need to be. It would be very difficult, if not impossible to do what we do without her.

I’m excited for the future with our Pilipa’a Girls (15’s and 17’s) and thankful for the opportunity to work with these great athletes.

–Coach Chris
