Orlando, Florida – The Pilipa’a Girls 17’s finished day 2 of tournament play with a 2-1 record and are now currently 5-1 in the the 41st Annual AAU National Championship tournament.

It was a day that saw superb execution in their first two matches with lopsided victories over Inside Out 17 Black of Michigan (25-13, 25-14) and North Atlanta Volleyball Club 17U (25-9-25-10) which extended Pilipa’a’s undefeated match run to five and had them as one of only four teams in the field that had not dropped a game in pool play.  Pilipa’a’s last match of the day proved to be one of the toughest of the tournament so far.  They faced a tall and talented CJV 17 Infinity team from North Carolina.  Early passing, serving and hitting errors proved troublesome in game one and led to a 25-16 loss.  Pilipa’a cleaned up their errors and turned up the pressure from the service line to neutralize the attach of the much bigger team.  Despite the improvement, Pilipa’a lost 25-22 in a game that was back and forth the entire way and featured some very solid volleyball by both teams.  “We had not been on the losing end of a lopsided game prior to this match, so I was pleased that the girls were able put that game behind them and put up a great fight against a very good team.  We finished in 2nd place in the pool and will advance to play NASA 17-1, Pineapple Sport-One 17 and Elite VBTC 17 Black tomorrow and we remain in the hunt for the tournament championship.  Our girls are looking forward to another challenging day in the gym tomorrow.”
