Pilipa’a – New Orleans Day 4 – Game Day #1

File Jun 24, 12 10 47 AMNew Orleans, LA – The first day of competition in the 2015 USA Volleyball Junior National Championship proved to be challenging and a bit overwhelming at times for our Pilipa’a 14’s team who finished the day with an 0-3 record.

Pilipa’a faced St. Louis CYC 14-1 in their first match of the tournament and struggled  with too many serving, passing and hitting errors.   Perhaps it was a bit of first match nerves for our girls who are playing in their first National Tournament.  St. Louis CYC,  while not overpowering,  was very steady and their consistency proved to be to0 much of a challenge as our girls lost (7-25, 12-25).

Despite the loss, we set a goal to get a little better each match. Pilipa’a came out strong against Topeka Impact 14-1  in their second match of the day. The passing, serving and hitting was greatly improved and Pilipa’a held the lead until 17 points when a few untimely errors turned the game in favor of the team from Kansas who won (20-25, 7-25).

Pilipa’a started off slowly in their third match as well. They trailed Club Max 14 of Texas for most of the first game.  They were down 21-24 before making a strong charge to steal game one (27-25) however they fell in game two (9-25) and game three (4-14).

Although they were winless on the first day there were a number of small victories along the way.  Hitting, passing and serving improved over the three games and the girls see that they can compete with these teams if they reduce their unforced errors.  They are looking forward to a fresh start tomorrow and an opportunity to continue to improve.

Pilipa’a plays Elevation 14 tomorrow at 2:30pm (9:30am HST).
