Pilipa’a well represented as B.I.I.F season begins

Pilipa’a  is well represented as the the 2016 Big Island Interscholastic Federation (B.I.I.F) girls volleyball season gets under way.   Fourteen Pilipa’a girls are playing on four different Division I high school teams.  Hilo High varsity features sophomore  Laurie McGrath (MB/OH),  Taina Leao (OPP), and Siena Mizuno (DS/L) along with freshman Mahala Ka’apuni (MB).  Kea’au High School varsity includes  sophomore Makalei Watson (OH) and  junior Kaumaka Sibayton (MB). Five Pilipa’a girls are on the varsity team  at Kamehameha-Hawaii including junior’s Keani Akui (OH), Kiani Troy,  Makenna Mahuna (S),  Freshmen Nani Spaar (OH/OPP) and Tiani Bello (OH).  Waiakea High School varsity features middle blocker Jazzy Alston and the Waiakea JV includes Amber Eakins (L) and Mia Takai (DS).

Teammates during the club season now find themselves on opposite sides of the net in what looks to be a very competitive high school season.  Hilo High, Waiakea and Kamehameha have all faced each other in pre or regular season and the matches have been close and exciting.
