Pilipa’a wins consolation championship at AAU’s, finishes 10th

17's Premier Consolation (Silver) ChampionsOrlando, Florida – The Pilipa’a girls’ 17’s finished the 41st Annual with an  11-2 record claiming the consolation championship (silver) and ranked 10th overall in the 87 team field in the Girls’ 17’s Premier division.

Pilipa’a bounced back from the previous night’s loss with a 3-0 match record on the fourth and final day of competition.  The girls knew that it was “win to stay in”  (single elimination) and were ready to play.  They reeled off back-to-back-to back  two-game wins over ASICS KIVA 17-1 (25-23, 25-18), NASA 17-1 (25-13, 25-19) and Top Select 17 Elite (25-22, 25-19).

Pilipa’a’s impressive run included a division best 23-4 game record.  All eleven of Pilipa’a’s wins were in 2 games and often times they made it look easy.  “The incredible thing about this group is that we were one of the smallest  teams in the field (height and number of players).  Our tallest player is just about 5’10 and our middle blockers are 5’6 1/2″ and 5’7 1/2.”  We traveled with only 7 players which included 6 rotation players and a libero and no subs.  Our girls played all 13 matches without a bench to provide relief.  We may have been small in stature and numbers, but you would have a tough time finding a team in this tournament with more heart, more desire and a greater willingness to work together than this group.”

Our Pilipa’a Boys 18’s depart on Tuesday for the USA Volleyball Junior Nationals in Houston Texas.  We’ll have updates here on Pilipaa.com.
